Original German WWII Mercedez Benz Grand Prix Team Stopwatch by Regent used at Nurburgring in 1938 Original Items

Original Item. Only One Available. We have had very few of these Torpedo Timer type Stopwatches in over 35 years of business in the U.S.A.. This example still runs perfectly, and is housed in a chrome-plated brass alloy case. The fluted knob on the top controls everything. You wind it up and when you push it in once the single seconds had starts moving immediately. On the second push, the second hand freezes at the time elapsed position. On the third push the timer resets itself to zero ready for reuse.

Of course, these stopwatches were not just used for timing torpedoes, and this one features the MERCEDES BENZ Company logo of the three spoked steering wheel on the dial under the original plastic crystal. The logo of course represents the company’s drive toward universal motorization with its engines dominating the land, sea, and air (three points). 

The rear of the case is engraved in Blackface type:

Nürburgring
24. 7. 1938.

This is all over a Shield enclosing a Swas. This roughly translates to 11th Grand Prix of Germany at the Nürburgring racing complex, on July 24th 1938. This is most likely a stop watch used by the team at the even, and later engraved as a commemorative item. The racing complex was first used starting in 1925, and still is in use today.
