Original Items: One-of-a-kind set. This small collection of medals was acquired from a WW2 veteran’s estate. The group consists of the following pieces:
German WWII Navy Blockade Runner’s Badge (Unmarked) – Sound example. Mid war production. Some of the silver is gone from the eagle and there is light discoloration on the obverse of the badge which does not distract from the appearance. The pin assembly on the reverse is intact but the wire catch has broken away.
– Original German WWII Silver Grade Infantry Assault Badge – Unmarked. Called in German a Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber, this genuine badge is constructed of silvered zinc. Over time, the silver oxidizes, so these are most often appear dark gray, as this example does. The design consists of an oval oak wreath tied together at the base via a ribbon, with a national eagle clutching a mobile swas, with a vertically oriented Karabiner 98k with the bayonet attached to the front of the barrel and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle superimposed on the wreath. The reverse of the award is plain, with a vertical pinback, an integrated hinge, and an integrated catch. It measures 47.72 mm (w) x 62.37 mm (h) with a weight of 34.7 grams. In overall very good condition, ready to display!
– Original German WWII War Merit Cross without swords in Bronze.
– German WWII 1937 Niederrhein SA Tinnie. Stamped steel brass plated, large format tinnie with a very dramatic design, pinback reverse. Measures 47x63mm.
– 6 x Bevo Style Schutzmannschaft “Schuma” Police Cap Badges unissued and uncut. For the members of the Schutzmannschaften (local auxiliary security forces in the occupied east). Constructed of white thread on black rayon. Each patch measures approximately 2 inches by 2 inches.
