Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice original M1938 Beaded Luftschutz Gladiator German helmet. The exterior of this German helmet retains about 80% of the original dark blue paint, with overall wear, with some chipping and oxidation. The helmet retains the original split pin rivets, though they have lost part of their original paint. The Luftschutz decal is clean and 90% complete with only a few scuffs and wear, and a lovely yellowed patina.
The inner skirt is maker marked with stamping into the steel with RL2 39 / 10. These markings would seem to indicate that the helmet was made in 1939, though we do not know if any records were kept of the maker. Stamped with paint over the same era is information about the helmet, which has a bit more information than we are used to seeing:
Höchstpreis von 1-10 Stück RM 8. —
von 11 Stück RM 7.50
Vertrieb genehmigt
gemäß § 8 Luftschutzgesetz
Kopfweite 54
This indicates the pricing and distribution information: Highest Price of 1-10 pieces 8 Reichsmark, 11 pieces 7.5 Reichmark. Distribution approved according to Section 8 Air protection legislation. Head Width 54. The stamping is mostly clear, though as with any pain stamp, it is always hard to get an accurate stamping on a rounded surface.
The leather padded liner is complete and in good condition. The leather is still supple, though some of the fingers are partly torn through, and they have rolled up due to age. The top securing strap is present and still installed, however the entire chin strap is unfortunately missing.
Overall a very good complete German WWII M38 Luftschutz helmet, a great example of this model helmet from World War Two. Ready to add to your collection and display!
