Original Items: Only One Set Available. Wind bands have always played a large part in the pageantry surrounding the military, especially so in the “old world”. During the NSDAP period in Germany this was possibly even more true, due to how much appearances and symbolism mattered to the current regime. All manner of wind instruments were needed for all branches of the Wehrmacht, and they were often marked to the specific branch they were used with.
This is a lovely set of parts from an Alto Clarinet, a member of the woodwind family, sometimes referred to as the “basset horn”. These were made in the keys of F and Eb, however the parts we have are only the bell section and two “necks”, so there is no way to tell what key instrument they were from. The necks are unmarked, however the bell has some great engraved art deco designs surrounding the makers name:
G.H. HÜLLER
Holzblasinstrumenten-Fabrik
Schöneck i. V.
G.H. Hüller is a known “Woodwind Instrument Factory” located in Schöneck im Vogtland, an area in the far south of Germany, very close to the current day border with Czechia. This area near Markneukirchen, Germany and Kraslice, Czechia has a long history of musical instrument production, with many factories still present today. Below the maker information is an engraved Luftwaffe “Eagle in Flight” insignia over the date of 1939, and below that is serial number 38190.
The parts all look to be made from silver plated “German Silver” alloy, and have a lovely tarnished patina from age and use. This would be a great set for any military band collector, especially the bell! Ready to research and display!
