Original Item: Only One Available. This example was produced by Solinger Metalwaren-Fabrik Stöcker & Co. GmbH, also known as SMF, who were one of the major producers of this knife during WWII. Their “Seated King” over Solingen trademark is seen on the blade, as well as ROSTFREI (rust free) indicating stainless steel construction.
This example has fine, stainless steel components. There are no numbers stamped on the parts of this knife, which is different from a typical example. The knife is fully functional, with all parts intact and no springs broken. The blade release functions properly, and the marlin spike locks into place.
The grip plates are of walnut with the standard four retaining rivets. These plates are in very good condition throughout, with some nice curl to the wood grain. There also appears to be the name McAFEE cut into one side of the grip which would indicate that this was a trophy of war and brought back by a USGI to the USA after the WW2.
The blade of this knife is in extremely choice condition. It retains much of the original crossgrain and is still very sharp in places.
A very nice rare Luftwaffe fully functional gravity knife by SMF!
