Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice genuine German WWII Luftwaffe marked metal field tape measure. It features a spring steel distance marked tape, with an aluminum spool and crank, and wooden handle. The crank is marked on one side:
(Lufwaffe Eagle)
FL. U.V.
20m
The FL. U.V. abbreviation stands for Flieger Unterkunft Verwaltung, or the Flight Barracks Administration, the agency responsible for Luftwaffe accommodations. We would assume this tape was used at base or for maintenance on aircraft. We have not found much information on how they were used during the war.
The tape measures is in very good condition, but does show wear and oxidation from use and 70+ years of age. There is also a repair on part of the tape, which was grafted together with rivets, a piece of spring steel, and leather. A very effective field repair.
An interesting item, with some nice research potential, ready to display!
