Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is an incredible collection of photos from WWII Germany, collected by a member of the German Luftwaffe (Air Force). We assume that the two pictures on the first page are the owner of the album, and they are shown in both their service and dress uniforms. The two “gull wing” badges on their collar tabs, which have no border, show that they were an enlisted man, holding the rank of Gefreiter (Airman).
The other pages of the album hold a treasure trove of photos from many locations in Germany and the surrounding countries such as Holland, showing many different activities. There are over 200 personal photographs of various sizes, showing all manner of scenes. There are comments on many page indicating where the photos came from, often noting locations such as Innsbruck and Berlin. Most photos seem to be held in by the original adhesive or corner stickers, though it is possible that they were reattached over the years. Some have also fallen out, and their imprint can still be seen on the spiderweb pattern “onion skin” separators. The album measures approximately 12 1/2″ x 9″.
Of particular note is that the reverse of the first page is the caption “Hermann Göring in Kladow”, along with pictures clearly showing the large Reichsmarschall (Commander in Chief) of the Luftwaffe in a dress white uniform. Kladow is an area in the south of the Spandau district of Berlin. As far as we can tell, these are unique photos.
Overall a really nice hard to find photo album from World War Two Germany. Historical records like this album have become priceless time capsules that provide an incomparable level of insight into the individual experience of the Second World War, now that over seventy years have passed.
