Original Items: Only One Available. During WWII, the planes were unheated and open to the outside air. The crew wore electrically heated suits and heavy gloves that provided some protection against temperatures that could dip to 60 degrees below zero. Another method of keeping the pilots and crew warm, was equipping them with thermoses for hot beverages and soup.
This thermos appears to be unissued and comes with the original issue cardboard box. The thermos itself appears to be constructed of an insulated glass body, thin metal base, cork stopper and a bakelite cup which threads onto the top of the thermos. There are no stamps or markings present on any of the items, but we have seen a few other examples just like this one, which aided in the identification process.
There is no damage on any of the items and the cork stopper does appear to be original to the thermos. These would not only be issued to the crews of long range bombers, but also to the ground troops, especially on resupply chains and trucks.
A wonderful example of a seldom seen piece of gear! Comes more than ready for display.
