Original Item: Only One Available. The German Pioniertruppen (Pioneer troops) were equipped to accomplish many different tasks. Whether it was laying mines, building (or demolishing) bridges, removing obstacles or constructing earth re-enforcments; the Pioneer troops carried the necessary equipment. They had a variety of different tools such as long spades, saws, explosives, detonators, and wire cutters. The Drahtschere (wire cutters) were key during WWI, due to the extensive barbed wire used. These cutters were still in production during World War II, with this being an example.
This set has a stamped Waffenmark and maker’s mark, gyr 1942. This is for the maker Hugo Deltawerk, Solingen. They were a maker of cutlery and components for machine guns and other German war materials. This example appears to have originally had extended prongs that have been worn down.
The wire cutters are in fair shape overall with metal handles and a small tab at the bottom for a carrying lanyard. The cutters measure roughly 23 ¾” long. A great set, ready for further research and display.
