Original Item: This is a very nice 1936 Officers pattern Tschako with police green wool body and black trim. It has a very fine quality police officer eagle with a simulated bullion wire aluminum cockade on the front, and a black leather chinstrap around the “pickelhaube” style lugs. Higher ranks would have a scaled chin strap. A great Polizei helmet (shako) as used by the metropolitan police, unlike some of the more common ones found trimmed in brown for rural police, this one is with black trim for the municipal police.
Interior is excellent, leather is supple and shows only light age, probably a size 55-56cm. Maker marked on inner dome top with maker decal:
HANS RÖMER
Echt
Fiber-Tschako
Neu-Ulm (Donau)
The vents are present and in good condition, though the sliding cover for the right side is front vent is missing. The field green felt exterior has suffered a bit of moth damage to the fabric nap, with a few small holes. The leather trim is in good shape, with a nice worn look. The shako does appear to have been stored on its side or hung up for some time, as it is now slightly “elongated” in shape, which would be remedied by storing it on a mannequin head.
Overall it is offered in very good display condition from one of Germany’s best manufactures of the time. Ready to display!
