Original Item: Only One Available. This navigation instrument is a very nice German WWII Kriegsmarine marked brass navigational compass directional sight by Nautische Werkstätten (Navigational Workshops), complete in an original wooden case. These are definitely quite rare, and were used on Battleships, Destroyers, Cruisers, Torpedo Boats, and other vessels! The the relatively heavy device is placed on top of a compass, and has sights that flip on on either side, basically making a giant rangefinding compass. It has a 360 degree azimuth around the entire circumference, and could be aimed in any direction.
The rangefinder is properly completely non-magnetic, to avoid interfering with the compass reading. It is in very good condition, and is marked with a clear EAGLE / M Kriegsmarine marking over serial number 5196 by the wire sight end. The other side if the movable portion bears the maker marking:

Kiel
Kiel is one of the major shipyards and ports for the German Navy, and is exactly where one of these would be expected to be made. One of the arms of the bottom piece is marked with F.N. 4657, which may be a part number or some other identifier.
Though there are some scratches and wear from use and age, it retains 80% of it’s original finish! It is 100% complete and functional, and comes complete in the original wooden case! This does not appear to be serial number matched as it is marked M / 2629 on the lid. The case also definitely has seem some deterioration and damage over the years, with some wood portions splitting and joints having let go. The case measures approximately 8 3/4″ x 8 3/4″ x 2 5/8″.
Would make a great addition to any collection, display, or simply as a conversation piece! This is a lovely example and comes more than ready for further research and display.
