Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition some what rare WWII German Kriegsmarine (Navy) EM/NCO’s Steel Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß), complete with a Kriegsmarine marked leather belt. The Navy used the standard Wehrmacht pattern buckles, but instead of the Field Gray color used by the Heer, they usually painted them a gold color. However, this was deemed most likely not the best color to use in Küstenartillerie (Coastal artillery) emplacements, so in 1937 they began to issue these dark navy blue belt buckles instead.
The Buckle design features a smooth outer field with central, high relief, embossed Wehrmacht eagle with down swept wings to slightly domed center, encompassed by an oak-leaf cluster to bottom and bears the Wehrmacht motto GOTT MIT UNS, (God [is] with us), on the top. The oak-leaf cluster and script are on a ribbed background and encircled by an inner and outer simulated twisted rope border. This design is essentially identical to the heer army buckle. except for the color. The buckle is in good service worn condition, with about 40% of the navy blue paint retained on the front, and a lot more on the back, which allows us to definitively identify it as a Coastal Artillery buckle. There are no markings on the buckle, and the leather tab is unfortunately missing.
The leather belt is in very good condition, and measures about 42 inches in overall length. There is a marking by the buckle end, but two holes have been added to the very end of the leather, which have obscured the marking. However, it still is stamped with the correct Waffen Eagle / M marking, indicating Kriegmarine acceptance!
A very nice example of a rare German WWII Leather Belt, ready to add to your collection and display!
