Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition example of a German WWII Heer Infantry EM-NCO M38 overseas cap (Schiffchen). The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally “little ship” as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for all branches of the Heer.
This example is constructed of a a field gray (feldgrau) wool exterior, with a white cotton lining. It features a fine machine embroidered eagle, with white thread on a forest green base, the standard Heer colors. There is a very nice white V-shaped soutache, which is the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for for Infantry and Motorized Infantry. Inside of this is a machine embroidered bullion National Tri-Color Cockade.
The inside of the cap has a nice condition lightweight canvas lining, however there are no markings visible at all. Size looks to be around a 56cm.
Condition of this cap is very good, with some mothing in areas, confined to the nap of the fabric. There is a hole on the left side about 3/4″ long. The colors are retained quite well, and this is definitely a very attractive and colorful overseas cap. The interior shows only light wear. Ready to add to your collection!
