Original Item. Only One Available. Made from heavy burlap cloth, this is a German WWII Issue Army Ration Grain Sack, measuring approximately 41″H x 27 1/2″W when flat. A steady supply of food was vital to any fighting force, and sacks were the preferred way of transporting grain, which has not changed much since WWII. The bag has a large stenciled Wehrmachtadler (Armed forces eagle), over a stencil identifying is correct usage and date of manufacture:
H. Vpfl.
1944
This is the German Abbreviation for Heeres Verpflegung, or “Army Rations”. There are also some faded other stenciled marks, possibly unit markings.
Condition is very good, especially considering the age, with the expected light staining and wear from use. There are a few small tears, and some colored stains that could be paint.
A very interesting piece of German WWII militaria, ready to display!
