Original German WWII Fireman’s Long Dress Bayonet by Carl Henkel with Troddel and Frog Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This Fireman’s Bayonet is in nice condition throughout, and is the 10-inch blade “long” version. The nickel hilt plating is bright throughout and remains 90% intact, with just some wear and light oxidation in places. The grip plates are the checkered black Bakelite type, in excellent condition and retained by steel rivets with dressed obverse heads. The scabbard has the original black paint, still bright and about 95% intact, with just a bit of missing paint on the back of the end “ball”. The original frog is in very good shape as well, however it has lost a lot of it’s patent black finish on the back, and the underlying brown finish shows.

Wrapped about the frog is an excellent Fireman’s Troddel. This troddel is of black leather strapping with triple stitches of silver bullion thread. There is a black leather slide and the stem is covered in silver bullion. The oval ball consists of alternating red and silver bullion thread. The insert is dark pink.

The long blade is a fine example, with a high quality polished bright steel finish. It is in good condition and has wide fuller construction, though there are some areas of staining and scuffing, as shown. The original black leather blade buffer is in place.

The ricasso is marked CARL HENKEL / BIELEFELD, for Carl Henkel Uniformen- und Lederwarenfabrik in Bielefeld. This leatherwear specialist made many holsters, belts, frogs, and also acted as a military outfitter. Most likely they purchased the bayonet unmarked from a maker, and then it could be etched and/or plated if so desired.
