Original Items: Only One Set of Three Available. Here we have a lovely set of three German WWII Fabric Strap insignia, which illustrate the variety of uses and construction methods seen during the NSDAP Period. When items were brought home by USGIs after the war, they would often stick to a particularly type or form of items to collect, so this represents a typical “haul” one might have come home with.
The first item is a lovely German WWII Luftwaffe EM/NCO Geschwader General Wever Ärmelstreiffen (cuff title), which were originally worn by members of Kampfgeschwader Gotha during WWII. This unit was later renamed Kampfgeschwader 253, and finally Kampfgeshwader 4, but kept using this cuff title. This was one of a series of commemorative honor cuff titles that were introduced by the Luftwaffe to honor fallen comrades and heroic pilots of WWI, and this one honored General Walter Wever, an extremely able officer who served as the first Chief of the General Staff of the Luftwaffe, until he was killed in a plane crash in June 1936. Wever had been a skilled and diplomatic officer who had done much to minimize the infighting and squabbling in the higher echelons of the Luftwaffe as Milch and Göring vied for power.
This example is made from dark blue wool, with gray silver thread embroidery, indicating issue to an EM/NCO (officer’s had bullion embroidery). It measures about 20 3/8″ in length, with a width of about 1 3/8″, and looks to have seen light service. There is some evidence that it was installed on a uniform at one time, but overall it is in very good condition.
The second item is a Technische Nothilfe (Emergency Technical Assistance or TeNo) BeVo embroidered EM/NCO cuff title, made from a black base with gray machine embroidery. It measures 16 1/2″ x 1 1/2″, and shows light wear from service, definitely looking to have been attached to a uniform at some point. It shows some staining from water and possibly rust exposure. These were worn by members of the TeNo organization, which was actually established in 1919 as a group of trained, voluntary, civilian personnel. They were used to maintain and repair essential services in the event of a natural disaster or emergency, and included many former service members. Later the organization was folded under the NSDAP umbrella, and these cuff titles were worn by members attached to military units.
The last item is a very nice service used Kriegsmarine cap tally, which measures 34″ x 1 1/4″, looking to be made of black silk or rayon, with gold BeVo machine embroidery. There were work around the Kriegsmarine Navy “Donald Duck” caps, and would be secured at the back by thread loops. This example is in good condition, showing some missing material and wear from service.
A lovely set of Fabric Strap insignia which would be a nice addition to any collection. or possibly the start of one! Ready to display!
