Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition German WWII Infantry Officer’s Schirmmütze Visor Cap, with a lovely “Crushed” shape. This “saddle-form” shape is highly desirable, and is only achieved on caps with a lot of wear and service.
The cap shows high quality fabrication, made with typical Heer army feldgrau (Field Gray) green / gray wool with a forest green band and a traditional high front, with matching white piping along the top edge and flanking either side of the band, indicating the branch to be Infantry.
It is decorated with a well detailed silvered aluminum eagle insignia on the peak and and an open silver bullion embroidered wreath surrounding a tri-color cockade on the band. It has the correct Silver bullion cord “chinstrap”, attached to silvered buttons, indicating that this cap is for an Officer. The visor / peak on this cap is black-finished leather, not the cheaper “vulcanfibre” seen on lesser examples. Officer’s were much more likely to use private purchase material.
The cap is lined with tan/orange fabric and shows the outline of where the celluloid diamond used to be. The grey leather sweatband is present, but shows much wear and has some tears. Both the sweatband and liner are marked with size 58 1/2, showing this was custom fit for the specific officer. There is a faded label under the sweatband, but all we can make out is GEBR. over the town of LINNICH.
Overall condition is nice, but definitely worn. There have seen some stitching repairs, as this is an example that saw extensive service. Definitely one that was REALLY THERE!
This is a very nice, high quality German Heer Infantry Officer peak visor cap, offered for sale in very good condition with a beautiful saddle-form shape. Ready to display!
