Original Items: One of a Kind. This is a lovely German WWII Luftwaffe “Sweetheart” Souvenir, a very nice hand carved wooden display board, with a clock mounted at the top. The oval board measures 9 1/2″T x 6 3/4″W, and is 7/16″ thick, looking to have come from an ammo crate or possibly a piece of siding. It is one piece, and heavily lacquered on the top, which over the years has checked, giving it a lovely “orange peel” look.
The board is marked NORTH AFRICA at the top, with 19 43 around the clock, above a hand carved Luftwaffe Eagle perched on a wreathed Iron Cross First Class 1939 (EKI). Below this on either side of an “arrow through heart” are the names THELMA and KENNETH. This was almost certainly made to send back home, and unfortunately we do not know the history of this item beyond what it can tell us itself, which is not much.
The clock itself is marked on the back with KÖHLER & CO. / LAUFAMHOLZ, and is most likely from a plane or other vehicle. It can be wound and sometimes ticks, but we would not consider it functional.
A great military collectible from WWII, ready to display or even possibly use, if you can service the clock.
