Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is a very nice set of German Schulterstücken (Shoulderboards), made up of 6 WWII issue examples, and a pair of Imperial German shoulderboards. The designs changed somewhat during the course of the war, and the many different corps colors can sometimes make them hard to identify. This is especially true of Imperial German shoulderboards, which often varied state to state.
Most likely this set was brought home by a USGI after the war, as they were very popular collectors items, with the wide variety of colors and designs.
This very nice set consists of the following:
– One PAIR of Imperial German WWI Field Artillery Regiment 59 EM/NCO Shoulderboards. These are the standard red color for artillery, with a yellow ‘Flaming Bomb” over 59. This should be for the 59th (Berg) Field Artillery, based in Köln, part of the VIII Army Corps.
– One German WWII Veterinary Service Oberstabsveterinär (Senior Staff Veterinarian) Shoulder board. This is a rank in the Veterinary service equivalent to a U.S. Major. The design features quadruple silver Russia braid woven around itself, with a “snake” insignia indicating Veterinary service. The Waffenfarbe (corps color) around and under the shoulder board is karmesinrot (crimson or carmine red), for the Military veterinary service, as well as general staff officers.
– One German WWII Heer Army Nebelwerfer Rocket & Chemical Troops Unterfeldwebel (Staff Sergeant) Shoulder board. This has one woven strap all the way around the edge, and it is in the later war Feldgrau subdued color scheme. It has Rosa (Rose-pink) piping around the edge, which was the Waffenfarbe (corps color) during WWII for the Heer Nebelwerfer Rocket and Chemical Troops.
– One German WWII Heer Army Panzer Armored Troops Oberfeldwebel (Master Sergeant) Shoulder Board. This has one woven silver strap all the way around the edge, with two square “pips” denoting the oberfeldwebel rank. It has Rosa (Rose-pink) piping around the edge, which was the Waffenfarbe (corps color) during WWII for Panzer Tank Troops and Motorized Infantry.
– One German WWII Assistenzarzt (Assistant Surgeon) Shoulder board, a rank equivalent to a Leutnant (Lieutenant) in the medical corps of both the Wehrmacht Heer (Army) and Luftwaffe (Air Force). These are the simplest of the officer design, with no pips, and consists of 4 rows of silver bullion “Russia Braid” trim, that go around both sides. The Waffenfarbe (corps color) around and under the shoulderboard is Dunkelblau (Dark blue) or “Medical Blue”, for the Military medical service (Sanitätstruppe).
– One German WWII Heer Army Cavalry & Reconnaissance Feldwebel (Technical Sergeant) Shoulder Board. This has one woven silver strap all the way around the edge, with a single square “pip” denoting the feldwebel rank. It has Goldgelb (Golden yellow) piping around the edge, which was the Waffenfarbe (corps color) during WWII for Cavalry and Reconnaissance units.
– One German WWII Heer Army Cavalry & Reconnaissance Fahnenjunker (Officer Candidate Technical Sergeant) Shoulder Board. This has one woven silver strap all the way around the edge, with a single square “pip” denoting the feldwebel rank, and an extra silver loop at the end indicating an officer candidate. It has Goldgelb (Golden yellow) piping around the edge, which was the Waffenfarbe (corps color) during WWII for Cavalry and Reconnaissance units.
There is some light wear and color fading on some items, as well as some mothing to the wool components, but this really is a nice set. These would be perfect to dress up some German uniforms, or just to collect on their own. Ready to display!
