Original Item: Only One Set of 4 Available. Here we have a very nice set of four German Steel Army EM/NCO’s Buckles (Koppelschloßen), brought back by a USGI after the war. It was very common for a soldier to specialize in specific items, and belt buckles were definitely a popular choice. All are correctly embossed with the German motto GOTT MIT UNS (“God with us”) in a double rope border, which was the same during both world wars. The WWI Buckle design has a Prussian Crown in the middle with a partial laurel leaf wreath underneath, while the WWII buckles have a “Closed Wing” Wehrmachtadler Armed Forces Eagle in the middle above a partial oak leaf wreath.
This very nice set consists of the following:
– One Imperial German Prussian M1915 Pattern Single Piece Stamped Steel Belt buckle, overpainted olive green. This has the insignia stamped directly into the body of the buckle, a design that carried into the post war and WWII designs. It looks to have seen use post war, when it was painted over the original oxide finish.
– One German WWII Wehrmacht Heer Steel Belt Buckle by Berg & Nolte dated 1942 with Leather Tab. This is good condition, showing wear to the paint on the buckle, but still retaining the tab and showing no major damage. The buckle is marked B & N – 42 by the retaining loop, and still has the leather tab, which still gives the full maker information:
BERG u. NOLTE A.G.
1942
LÜDENSCHEID
– One German WWII Wehrmacht Heer Steel Belt Buckle by Richard Sieper & Söhne. This is good condition, showing what looks to be an apple green overpaint. It has some oxidation on the rear, and has the correct R. S. & S. maker mark by the retaining loop.
– One German WWII Wehrmacht Heer Steel Belt Buckle by Josef Feix & Söhne with “Sanitized” Insignia. This is good condition, showing wear to the paint on the buckle, with the swas (hook cross) under the eagle ground off on the front side. This most likely indicates use during the immediate post war occupation years.
