Original Group. One-of-a-Kind. This is a great framed group named to German soldier Gustav Viertel, who served during both World Wars, and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd Class during World War I.
The lot includes:
– Viertel’s Iron Cross, 2nd Class, without ribbon.
– Viertel’s original Iron Cross award certificate written out, for actions on 3.3.1918. It is signed 24. April 1918 with a stamp for the 38th Infantry Division. His rank was Kraftwagenführer (motor vehicle driver). 8¼ x 6½”.
– Viertel’s official Iron Cross certificate “in the name of His Majesty the Emperor and King”, signed April 26th, 1918. 8⅛ x 6½”.
– Viertel’s 1914/1918 Hindenburg “Honor Cross” award certificate dated January 16th, 1935. These were awarded for WWI Service in the 30s, partially to garner support for the newly instated party. 8¼ x 5⅞”.
– Viertel’s Driver’s license (second copy) dated 1932 with a photograph of him and several stamps. Very droopy material, great condition. Shows his birthdate as November 17th, 1894.
– Viertel’s Luftwaffe Soldbuch, with a photo of him in the interior cover, and his rank written as Flieger, which was the lowest rank in the Luftwaffe. From the entires he appears to have joined very late in the war, so there isn’t a great deal of content.
A great named group to a veteran of World War I and World War II, ready for further research and display!
