Original Item: Only One Available. This is unusual and extremely scarce. An original German WW1 Fife, as in “Musket, Fife and Drum” contained in its matched original high quality leather belt carrier.
The Fife is 15″ in overall length, made in a fine quality wood with silvered brass caps on each end. It seems functional but we don’t know how exactly how to play. Impressed down the side of the instrument are regimental numbers of the German military unit to which it was issued that read:
107R H.K. 1.3 2.K.
The Fife is contained in the most marvelous leather-lined, leather-covered carrying “tube” with brass end cap. The top (throat) is of substantially constructed brass with large spring cap for sealing the Fife inside. The brass top mount has a bracket to which is permanently attached a substantial leather belt frog which is also stamped with regimental numbers that read:
107.R.
2.K.
Along with manufacturer information that reads:
Steiner
Freiberg
Amazingly high quality workmanship for military Issue, we just have not seen anything like this before.
