Original Item. Only One Available. This is a rather nice example of an M1895 Pickelhaube with a Prussian Wappen (front plate). As is seldom seen, this example has the original chinstrap. There is a maker’s mark on the interior crown for Maury & Cie, however most of the marking is too faded to read and the year is only half present, 19??. The spike on top denotes infantry issue, and it has the correct black and white (Prussian) and Tri-color (German Empire) cockades around the chin strap lugs.
The Pickelhaube has its original brass front plate. The helmet is ink stamped size 57 inside the crown. The helmet is overall in great condition with crazing to the exterior leather but nothing serious. The liner is complete, the only issue being the tie-string has ripped out of five of the pads. This isn’t a huge issue, however. The spike-plate has an additional black plate underneath which is uncommon to see, but reinforces the fixings. A great addition.
The chinstrap is an original example which is very difficult to find in any condition. The leather of the strap is wearing heavily but it is still very solid. The leather finish has some checking, typical for a helmet of this age. A very impressive piece, ready for further research and display.
