Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine Imperial German M-1915 Cuirassier’s Lobster Tail Pickelhaube. This Pickelhaube has a basic three-piece construction: helmet, visor and extended rear protective neck guard. It is fabricated from polished silvered steel, magnetic, topped by a spike with two ventilation holes and a spike mounting base with two points, held in place by four large capped rivets. The front comes with a visor designed with a turned-up lip, held in place by large capped rivets on either end.
The helmet plate is die-stamped zinc-plated Grey finished Prussian eagle insignia (Wappen). The rear neck guard protrudes outwards, away from the body in the traditional “lobster tail” design, held in place with eleven large capped brass rivets just inside the outer edge. The entire outer edge is trimmed in a rolled-around brass band, including the visor and neck guard, protecting the wearer from the raw steel edges of the helmet itself. It is size stamped 58 on the steel band on the underside of the neck guard. The helmet itself does not have a maker mark, which is not entirely unusual.
The helmet itself is pieced together from a combination of original and replacement parts (chinscales, and some of the dome screws)). It is ideal to add to a collection as-is, or for the basis of a restoration. This makes for a very affordable version of an otherwise very expensive helmet.
