Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition, turn of the century pickelhaube-style German Fire helmet, with a boiled leather body, brass front plate (wappen), brass central comb, and brass fittings. Central plate has a starburst with the standard emblem for German Firefighting units. The emblem is encircled with the text GOTT ZUR EHR / DEM NACHSTEN ZUR WEHR which translates to “Honor God – Defend your neighbor (against fire).”
Full leather lining is still intact with the top tie string missing. The sides of the helmet where the chinstrap mounts does not have cockades present. The chin strap does have checking in the black finish, but is solid overall. Condition overall is very good, and this configuration was typical of the 1890-1910 period. Interior crown has only one of the two original comb anchors secured under the bolts.
This is an unusual and very attractive item. Offered in very good condition. Size is not marked but we estimate it to be 54-56 cm.
