Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of an original trench fighting knife with scabbard, as used by the Germans in WWI. The design features a full tang with an all wood ribbed hilt secured by two pins. The knife has a double edged dagger blade of 5 3/4″, with the top edge only extending half way down the spine. It is marked DEMAG / DUISBURG in a circle in front of the steel cross guard on the blade ricasso. This knife was produced by Deutsche Maschinefabrik A-G (DEMAG) of Duisburg as a private purchase item. The opposite side as a proof mark from one of the Kingdoms / States of Imperial Germany.
The condition of the blade is excellent, almost unissued. The original factory grind is still present, with a lovely shape and sharp blade, and the markings are still crisp. There is even still the original leather blade buffer next to the cross guard. The grip has a few dents, but overall does not appear to have been used much, if at all.
The knife comes in an genuine rolled steel World War One scabbard with leather belt loop and strap with ornate button closure. The original black finish is almost completely intact, and is very nice.
100% original, a n excellent example for display in any quality German edged weapons collection.
