Original German WWI Artillery Luger Black Leather Holster converted for P08 – dated 1916 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is something that we don’t come across very often. This holster began live as brown leather hardshell holster, for the Luger Lange Pistole 08 (Long/Artillery Luger), which were used by Imperial German forces during WWI. In 1916 an order came for holsters to be changed to black, but this holster was made before that change. The holster is marked on the top front edge beneath the flap with a 1916 date as well as a depot marking from WWI.

At some point, most likely after WWI, the holster was returned to arsenal, and there it was shortened for use with a standard P08 luger holster, and dyed black. At this time, the long cleaning rod slot on the side was removed, and the loops on the back were as well. Then a magazine pouch was added on the side of the holster, and belt loops on the back. It was also stamped on the back with S. Sch. II. 863. , so it was most likely issued to some type of military school. We do not know if this is a WWI era marking or not. The original stitch holes are still completely visible, showing the history of this wonderful holster.

The overall condition of the holster is very good, though the pistol ejection strap is missing. It still retains the original artillery style top closure. Both belt loops are intact and complete. The holster has however had some repairs, such as the stitching on the bottom of the leather “hinge” for the lid. 

A really nice holster with an interesting history that will complete any WWI or WWII Era P08 Luger pistol. Ready to display or use!
