Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very good condition Pony Fur-covered rucksack known as the Tornister (Knapsack) Model 34 (developed in 1934), still fitted with the original straps. As the war progressed the design was simplified for economical and practical reasons, first switching to cowhide, after which the fur covering was eliminated, making these early packs especially scarce on today’s collector market.
This example is in very good condition, still retaining almost all of the fur, and showing some great wear from service. It has the early style straps, used before the introduction of the D shaped clips as used on the German A-Frame and other field gear. Instead the bottom has simple J-hooks which attach to the securing straps that go around the sides. The main portion of the straps has hooks that go under the belt.
The backpack still has a clear maker mark stamped into the leather in the center of the back:
A. KIND
HUNSTIG
1937
Condition is very good, showing just a bit of wartime modifications to replace damaged components. The top ring above the maker mark was replaced, and one of the J-hooks on the bottom broke, so a bent nail was inserted to take its place. The interior looks to have all of the buttons and straps in place, and overall the leather has a lovely matured look.
A wonderful service repaired early example of a hard to find backpack as used by the German Wehrmacht in WW2. Ready to display!
Measures approximately 12 1/4″W x 14 1/2″H x 3″
