Original Item: Only One Available. Stereoscopy is a technique for creating or enhancing the illusion of depth in an image by means of stereopsis for binocular vision. The word stereoscopy derives from Greek στερεός (stereos) ‘firm, solid’, and σκοπέω (skopeō) ‘to look, to see’. Any stereoscopic image is called a stereogram. Originally, stereogram referred to a pair of stereo images which could be viewed using a stereoscope.
This book, as with most stereoscopic methods, presents two offset images separately to the left and right eye of the viewer. These two-dimensional images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3D depth. This technique is distinguished from 3D displays that display an image in three full dimensions, allowing the observer to increase information about the 3-dimensional objects being displayed by head and eye movements.
After Benito Mussolini’s visit to NSDAP Germany in 1937, AH accepted Mussolini’s invitation for a state visit to Italy. It took place from May 3rd to the 10th in 1938. This very rare near complete original example of the 3D book “HIT*** MUSSOLINI der Staatsbesuch des Führers in Italien” with photographs by Reichsbildung Berichterstatter der NSDAP Heinrich Hoffmann and German-language text by SS-Standartenführer Henrich Hansen. The foreword is by NSDAP Press Chief, Dr. Dietrich.
The book measures about 8” x 12”, and is a near complete example, complete with the original viewing device and even the instruction paper on how to use them. Originally there would have been 100 stereograms located on the pages and in the slots within the back cover. Unfortunately, numbers 66, 83 and 98 are missing. Luckily these stereograms are numbered, making adding the missing ones a rather easy task to do if you would wish to do so.
