Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a very interesting German Shooting Club wooden plaque or sign, which was made during the pre-WWII period. It was most likely made after the 1933 NSDAP take over of Germany, and features designs either carved or burnt into the wood, which were then painted. At the top are two NSDAP swas national flags, with a sprig of oak leaves between them, and then oak leaves and acorns on the left and laurel leaves and berries on the right. At the bottom is a carved banner reading Üb Aug’ u. Hand für’s Vaterland, which translates roughly to “Practice eyes and hands for the fatherland”.

This statement is seen on the awards given by many shooting clubs for good marksmanship, and we assume this hung at one of the clubs. The center features what looks to be some version of the interwar Panzerkampfwagen I (PzKpfw I or Panzer I). There is the name H. FRIEDMANN on the print, which we have not been able to find any information on.

Condition is very good, with the colors well retained, and a lovely aged look to the painted front, with lots of checking and crazing to the finish. There is some abrasion to the finish near the top, to be expected for a piece of this age. A great display piece worthy of further research!
