Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice German WWII Heer Army Infantry Observer NCO Training commemorative plaque, made from metal components mounted on a black painted wooden backing. It measures about 9 3/4″H x 6 1/4″W, with a hanger loop on the top. Mounted to this is a 4 3/4″ medallion / table medal showing a forward observer using “rabbit ear” periscope optics while hiding amongst foliage / brush on the ground.
Below this is a smaller metal plaque with the following inscription:
Den scheidenden Kameraden
Uffz. Vereinigung 13. (I.G.) I.R. 46
24. 10. 1938
As best we can tell, this plaque was presented upon completion of forward observer NCO training, which was a relatively common thing, especially during the pre / early war years. Later on there would not be time / materials for such pleasantries. Forward observers were very important for a variety of reasons, and proper training on concealment and effective reporting were vital to their effectiveness.
A very nice commemorative plaque from Infantry Observer NCO training.. Ready to research and display!
