Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a Pre-WWII Fireman’s Dress Bayonet, produced by the legendary Solingen-based firm Carl Eickhorn between 1933 and 1935. These were worn by members of the Civic Feuerwehr (Fire Department) for dress and parade occasions.
The bayonet is in very good condition, with the nickel hilt plating bright mostly throughout, and remaining about 90% intact. The grip plates are the checkered black Bakelite type, in excellent condition and retained by steel rivets with dressed obverse heads. The scabbard has the original black paint, still bright and about 80% intact. There is some rust and oxidation where the enamel has chipped away. The original black leather frog is in great shape, with the expected wear of age.
Wrapped about the frog is an excellent Fireman’s Troddel. This troddel is of black leather strapping with triple stitches of gold. There is a black leather slide and the stem is covered in silver bullion. The oval ball is also silvered, though it has worn somewhat, and the red on the insert has unfortunately flaked away.
The 9 3/4″ long blade is a fine example with a highest quality nickel-plated surface. It is in good condition and has wide fuller construction. The reverse ricasso is etched with the 1933-35 Eickhorn trademark logo: a double oval surrounding a seated squirrel holding a sword, with CARL EICKHORN / SOLINGEN surrounding the squirrel trademark. The original brown leather blade buffer is in place.
A nice, complete example here, ready to display!
