Original Item: Only One Set Available. This lovely set of an etched blue glass ash tray and white ceramic coin bank were official souvenirs from the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. These are both based on the design of the huge bronze bell in the Berlin Bell Tower, which was the emblem of the Berlin Olympics.
The glass ash tray measures approximately 4 1/2 inches square and 1 1/2 inches deep. It shows an etched Olympic Bell with 1936 and the words Ich rufe die Jugend der Welt, which translate to “I summon the Youth of the World”. Offered in very good condition, there are no chips that we can see. There is however minor marring and scratching on the bottom consistent with its many years of age.
The coin bank is approximately 4 1/4 inches tall and 4 inches wide at the base, which is open. The top part of the bell has a slot where coins were inserted. It has the German Eagle over the Olympic rings on one side, and the Brandenburg Gate on the other. Around the bottom it is marked with 1.-16. August 1936 and 1.Olympische Spiele Berlin (11th Olympic Games Berlin), with Swas (hook cross) between the statements.
The bottom is maker marked by Porzellanfabrik Heinrich & Co. Selb. BAYER. OSTMARK in green. As a rarity, it still has the original metal base plug, though it is now taped into place. Most likely the key was lost and it was left unlocked, so without the tape the bottom will fall out. The bottom has some rough areas, but no chips or cracks.
A lovely set of Pre-WWII German memorabilia. Ready to display!
