Original Item: Only One Available. Made at the great arsenal at ERFURT just outside Berlin this extremely rare pre-WW1 bayonet is marked on the back of the blade with a Crown over W, over 02.
It is further marked with a Crown over ERFURT on the ricasso and the cross guard which has the early horns is nicely regimentally marked R.2.P.3.75.
No scabbard came with this “sleeper” which we just received from an estate auction. It is still in untouched as we got it condition and shows a few minor combat dings to the blade. For the rarity of this model, this one is a real peach, totally honest, and a very nice surprise. Slight staining to the blade, but otherwise offered in very good condition.
In 50 years collecting weve only had about a half dozen of these and they were always very rare.
The 1898/02 Mauser pioneer saw back bayonet was superseded by the 1898/05 just three years later but still saw masses of action in WW1.
