This is an incredible wooden transport create for FERREIRA PORT which is dated 1942 and has the original German Wehrmacht shipping label still attached can be found on page 175 of the wonderful book; Rations of the German Wehrmacht in World War II by Jim Pool & Thomas Bock. This very crate is featured in the book. The crate measures approximately 16.5″ x 11″ x 7.5″ and features a hinged top. It is clearly marked:

Alcoholic Beverages produced for military consumption was a common occurrence in the German Wehrmacht during WWII. Not all all alcoholic beverages provided to the military were off the shell commercial items. From surfing examples it is clear that beverages were specifically bottled for military consumption.
