Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is a charming item of high quality with a 5 long, 1 wide blade. Overall length is 9.25.
Features a dark amber grip inlaid with decorative silver and Mother of Pearl on both sides. The entire hilt is mounted in silver which is ornately engraved. The upper, non-sharp side of the blade is worked with grooved decorations usually found on early edged weapons.
This style knife was a utility piece intended to dispatch wounded deer and wild boar during hunting expeditions. The right side of the blade bears a lengthy engraved inscription in old German making it unreadable to us. The first word appears to be “Gluck” which means “luck” so the engraving is perhaps a hunter’s prayer for a successful outing.
A relatively small but deadly weapon equally usable for self defense and already 220+ years old offered in wonderful condition.
