Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fine example of the classic military flintlock pistol of the French revolutionary period, which continued being used into the era of the Emperor Napoleon during the Napoleonic wars. This type of pistol also saw much use in the new world.
The pistol has brass mounts on a walnut wood stock fitted with large skull crusher butt cap. The lock is marked Manuf. Imp. / de St.Etienne, the major arsenal and arms factory throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. It has all Brass mounts on walnut wood stock fitted with large skull crusher butt cap. Ghosts of Cartouches still visible and DATED 1811 on stock and barrel. Many of the fittings are also marked with Star over H, the French poincon for the controller Jean Baptisite Hardy, who worked at St Etienne, 1810-1813. The lock is speckled with old pitting stains, the stock with trooper’s initials HCS carved in fore end bottom.
Works perfectly, holding correctly at half cock and firing only at full cock, this is a pistol that may well have seen service at WATERLOO. Still with all the original markings, which were often removed when these were sold off to private individuals.
Very Impressive and ready to display!
