Original Item: Only One Available. This Chilean Police Sidearm began life as a long bladed bayonet for the French Fusil Modèle 1874 “Gras” Rifle. It featured a more modern straight design with the reinforced spine had superior penetrating power against any type of armor. These were very often cut down or altered later on in their service life, just as this example has been.
The blade has been shortened to just under 11 inches, and the hilt entirely replaced with a new cast brass handle. This bears the Coat of Arms of the REPUBLICA DE CHILE right by the crossguard, indicating issue to the Chilean Police force. The original scabbard was also modified, shortened to the correct length, and fitted with a brass chape and frog button.
A good example of how obsolete bayonets were repurposed for continued use. Ready to display!
