Original Movie item: One Only. BEAU GESTE is a fabulous adventure story, written by P.C. WREN, which details the adventures of three English brothers who enlist separately in the French Foreign Legion following the theft of a valuable jewel from the country house of a relative. The story been made into several full length movies over the last 100 years.
The first of these was the 1926 Silent film, starring RONALD COLEMAN as Beau himself, with Victor Mclaglen and William Powell. NOAH BEERY, the older brother of the famous Wallace Beery, played the evil genius as Sergeant LEJAUNE. A great adventure story!
Our tunic may very well be original French Foreign Legion issue, as these were plentiful and available in 1926 however it now has a Prop House Label:
UNITED COSTUMERS, INC, MANUFACTURERS with the written in script name of “No?? Berry” who played Sgt. Lejaune.
The tunic is made from light blue Linen(?) with brass French buttons embossed:- LEGION ETRANGERE. unlined interior as North Africa was incredibly hot, each sleeve bearing an inverted “V” perhaps as a Rank designation.
If you love the Foreign Legion or the Movies this is for you!
