Original Item: One of a Kind. This is an excellent Dutch / German made Military Flintlock pistol, which is simply a fantastic example. It measures about 20 1/2 inches in overall length, and is fitted with an almost 14″ barrel in about .71″, half octagonal and half round. The lock features an unbridled powder pan, and the cock is fitted with a safety Dog Catch.
The rear rear of the barrel tang is marked “No.1.” The pistol features all brass mounts including a THREE screw side plate. The wrist escutcheon is nicely engraved with “CFE | FvK” over a regimental shield with “Z” and “W” on either side. At the bottom is the date 1750. We unfortunately were not able to identify the markings, and leave them as an excellent research opportunity for the customer.
The pistol comes complete with a brass tipped ram rod. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full. The safety dog seems to be for when the pistol is in the full cock position, though it can also hold it at half cock. The wood stock is fantastic, with lovely carved embellishments surrounding the fittings.
This is a spectacular pistol that could have seen service in both the French and Indian War and the U.S. Revolutionary War.
A true classic which is actually dated and is exceptionally rare. A great item for the discerning collector!
