Original Item: One of a Kind. From a Collection just acquired this is a magnificent Flintlock Pistol with Ball trigger and Ball Butt. The stock is fully inlaid with Mother of Pearl and brass inlays, almost all of which are present. It also has some nice silver inlaid on the lock plate. It never had a trigger guard and would be worn in a waist sash.
The Ball butt is of an Ivory like bone, which has a wonderful aged patina of stress cracks from drying out over two hundred years. This has left it with an almost coffee-stain color achieved only with age. It is probably some type of “ivory”, but with a solid center, it definitely isn’t elephant, which is hollow. It could possibly be from a sperm whale tooth. The large ball is about 2 1/2″ in diameter.
The pistol is 17″ in overall length and there is no provision for a ram rod. Dating to the early 1800 this fabulous Cossack Flintlock Pistol of classic design is a very fine example.
