Original item: One of a Kind. This is a very smart curved sword with a fire blued and gilded blade, which displays the Danish Royal Cyphers including the “Elephant”. Both sides are also marked VIVAT close to the crossguard. Research tells us that just 25 units of this sword were produced by the maker “Jorgen Naested”, or more likely “Jørgen Næstved”, on 31st October 1801, making these EXTREMELY rare.

The sword has a curved blade approximately 28 inches in length, and an overall length of 34 inches. The grip features a five ball cross guard with a small anchor and five ball single bar guard, retaining much of its gilded finish. The grip is of ivory, copying the British style, with the owner’s initials engraved on the central grip plaque. The opposite side has a Naval Anchor under a Danish Crown.

The included scabbard is of leather, with what were originally gilded brass fittings. The leather has shrunk a bit, so it no longer fully covers the sword. Long ago someone tried and split the bottom fitting near the drag. The scabbard has two hanger rings, and interestingly, the lower ring appears to be attached to a “sliding” fitting. It is so much larger than the other fittings that it can fit right over the lower fitting.

Out of long term storage in a very old Naval Collection. Ready for a good clean and then ready to research and to display!
