Original Item: Only One Available. We’ve all seen these things in the movies and in WW2 documentaries. These were mounted on a yoke and aimed by the operator at the ship to be communicated wit. It is hand operated with a pistol grip and trigger, which adjusts the angle of the large mirror so that the lamp transmits in Morse code.
Marked on the side in the shell casting:-
PATT. W898.
LANTERN 6-INCH
SERIAL NO.
G. 5449
The lantern still retains its original black paint finish and appears to operate, but of course we have not been able to test it. Complete with rubber eye piece to aim the beam at the intended recipient. There are also two spring clips next to the eyepiece, presumably to attach a telescope to. The light bulb inside is unfortunately no longer present, however the mirror and glass lens are in great shape.
We have never had or seen one just like this before, so it is possibly quite rare. Ready to display or rewire for use.
