Only One Set Available: A wonderful brown leather chamois-lined flying helmet with elastic snap chinstrap. In 1944 the internally wired C type flying helmets were issued. These came with all the holes and rubber earcups necessary to attach headphones, and many even came with these pre-installed.
This fine example does not have the avionics installed, though it is definitely fully set up to accept them, and may have had them removed after service. It does come with front goggle straps and features an elastic chinstrap and a built in clip on the right side to accommodate the oxygen mask attachment hook. The helmet still has original markings on the left side, indicating that it the No.4 version, and is a size 7 1/2 – 7 [5/8].
The goggles are wonderful, classic MkVIII goggles featuring leather construction with suede lining, steel eye brackets encasing clear glass lenses (no cracks or chips), and a classic elastic cotton strap that is still somewhat stretchy. The lenses do have a bit of delamination between the layers. They are A (CROWN) M marked for the British Air Ministry, over stock number 22C/930 7699, and really are a great example.
This is a fantastic set, all complete and ready to display. Just perfect for any WWII aviator collector.
