Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful World War Two Royal Air Force brown leather chamois-lined flying helmet with elastic snap chinstrap. This fine example comes with front goggle straps and features an elastic chinstrap and a built in clip on the right side to accommodate the oxygen mask attachment hook.
Overall condition is nice, though it does show wear from use and age, especially on the interior. The elastic in the chin strap still works. There are markings in the left and right interior of the ear cup and reads as N. PROWTING 204695. Exterior leather is in good service worn condition.
The included goggles are an unissued pair of Mk VIII goggles with original box. The MkVIII goggles were the final and most successful of the RAF issue flying goggles during the Second World War. Introduced officially in October 1943, they were not supplied to aircrew until the earlier stocks were exhausted. The MkVIII’s continued in RAF service until made obsolete by the introduction of fiberglass helmets fitted with drop-down visors.
A lovely flying helmet set ready for further research and display!
