Original Item: Only One Available. These used to be plentiful, but this is only the third example we have had in over 10 years! This bayonet was designed for the Lee-Enfield No.5 MkI Jungle Carbine, which had a large flash hider that prevented earlier bayonets from fitting. The bayonet was also used with the 9 mm Sterling L2 submachine gun. This is totally original British Military production and is marked N79, the dispersal code for Viners Limited. This company produced approximately 42,000 bayonets.
This is the second model of the No.5 Bayonet with two grip screws; the extremely rare MkI had the grip secured by a single screw and a press stud without the screw slot. The bayonet has a 8 inch “bowie” style clip-point blade, with a wide fuller running down each side, with an overall length of 12 inches. Unlike most bayonets, the wooden grip scales wrap completely around the tang. Comes complete with a brass-throated scabbard, painted black. Scabbards produced from the 50s onward had large brass throats while the war time was steel. Even though the scabbard is a postwar replacement, it does not take away from the beauty of the pair!
In very good condition, this bayonet still has the original bright finish on the blade, with the hilt blued. Many were refurbished post war, but this one was not, and the blade and hilt are still in great shape, with clear markings. The grips are a bit dark from oil and grease, but still are in very good condition. Ready to display with your No.5 Carbine!
