Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a late Victorian Era British Pattern of 1888 bayonet, made originally to fit the Magazine Lee–Metford (MLM) rifle, first introduced in 1888. The bayonet has been cut down and sharpened for use as a fighting knife, most likely during World War II given the construction of the sheath.
The bayonet still retains some of the markings on the ricasso. The locking lug still functions but is very worn. The sheath is stitched and riveted, and is marked with the initials C.B.. The retaining strap on the sheath is broken with only one side retained, covered in verdigris. The leather is cracking heavily as well. Some of the stitching is absent near the bottom.
A great example of a fighting knife made from a very old bayonet! Comes ready for further research and display.
