The case also bears a large Broad Arrow stamping to outside of the case. There is silver plate riveted to the lid, which is engraved:-
LT.GEN. H.S.RAWLINSON
Lieutenant HENRY SEYMOUR RAWLINSON, was born in 1864 in London the son of an Army Officer. He was educated at Eton College and then entered the Army. He was on General Kitchener’s Staff at the Battle Of Omdurman in 1898 and in the First World War was heavily involved and took heavy criticism for has handling in the Battle of the Somme, a massive British WW1 disaster.
This set is very superior and in just wonderful almost unissued condition, the back of the leather case having loops to interface with the Sam Browne belt and cross strap. The carrying case comes complete with it’s body sling / shoulder strap.
The top quality field glasses come complete with leather neck strap and are fully functional. They are constructed of brass, which has been painted with black lacquer. The tubes are clad in fine brown leather, matching the case. One eyepiece tube is marked with a British Broad Arrow, while the other is marked S3 / 62380. The finish is somewhat worn from use, but they are in otherwise excellent condition.
