Original Item: One of a Kind. Designed by Lt. Arthur Pritchard of the 3rd Royal Berkshire Regiment, these were originally produced by the arms company W.W. Greener in Birmingham for Private Purchase by Officers serving on the Western Front. They were often referred to as the “Pritchard Greener” bayonet, and were intended for use in the trench combat of WWI.
They were constructed with a custom hilt which attaches to the standard .455 cal Webley Mk VI Revolver, which was the standard British Service revolver adopted on 24 May 1915. The construction utilized the front portion of the “T” cross section French Gras Model 1874 Bayonets which were very available during WW1.
Most all were made with cast BRASS hilts but this example is made from 100% STEEL. Please see WATTS & WHITE THE BAYONET BOOK, Page 396 items 827 and 828. THIS IS NOT A REPLICA OR REPRODUCTION and is totally ORIGINAL, the first we have seen in some time.
The bayonet is complete with its all steel Scabbard fitted with it’s original Brown Leather belt frog and securing snap. Condition is very good, though it does have the expected patination from age. It also has an old repair around the bayonet catch, which unfortunately has given way.
Very Rare and ready to display!
