Original Item: Only One Available. These Hand Saws are the sort of Tommy Kit that just never survived to reach the collector’s market. Being little different from a regular hand saw, they were consumed by the Tommies themselves, or the local population upon the cessation of hostilities.
Here is a totally original full size 24 inch blade HAND SAW marked 2ND. N. & DY / 7.1915, which is impressed into the saw’s wood handle. This designation stants for the “2nd Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, July 1915.” The saw, which is now well used, has clearly come out of some barn, perhaps in France or Belgium and looks like it saw significant service and was then forgotten for many many years.
The Saw comes with its original leather Saw Carrier, complete with one buckle and strap but missing the closure strap over the handle. The carrier shows some damage/wear but could be repaired, and is totally original, so we have not attempted any major cleaning or restoration. A WW1 item that one just does not see.
Ready to be fully cleaned and displayed in your trench.
